I’ll be in Rio 2016 with Santino

It’s a tough season for many South Sudanese and those that have a stake of any sort in the land.  Yes, we are at it again, shamefully showcasing our scars of war with mounting statistics of deaths and the displaced. The presence of active PTSD has us. Thus, Olympic Game’s fever may grip only a few souls there now.

But there’s beauty hidden in the rubble. Pure joy lies along the path of destiny for this great nation, waiting to distill through the troubled cracks and soothe many hearts of prolonged sadness and mourning. The God of heaven is undertaking for us.

As South Sudan lifts from its present despair, shunning the dark clouds of war and unparalleled economic difficulty, to send forth for the first time, three athletes to Rio 2016 Olympic Games; I’ll be accompanying them, making my first ever appearance too, at an international game’s event, on my knees.

Guor Marial will participate in the Men’s Marathon, Margret Hassan in the 200m & 400m women and our own local boy, Santino Kenyi will ignite the tracks in the 1500m men.

Can any good thing come out of South Sudan? Well, that’s why I’m headed to Rio. Santino Kenyi gives me the impetus to respond with a resounding YES!

It may seem like little or nothing, but Santino, probably more than the other team mates, represents not just a nation in crisis that desperately needs something to celebrate; he carries raw hope for a great number of youth in Yei, who know him in a very personal way; whose abilities and skills are yet unknown, untapped and may never be seen nor celebrated. This is Santino’s first Olympic Games appearance. It’s no mean feat.

His first ever competitive event was at our unknown Yei Secondary Schools’ Mini-Marathon in October 2012, at the Freedom Square in Yei, where he came in 3rd and then 1st in the subsequent two editions, 2013 and 2014.

Together with 19 other winners (first ten boys and first ten girls), they enjoyed a full year’s secondary school scholarship privilege and cash their victories accorded them. But more than that, Santino met Jesus in the course of our connection and became a born again Christian. I introduced him here, with hope we’d be where we are today, at the threshold of history. The story continues…

This lad, is my primary motivation as I head to Rio this season. I’ll be following him on my knees, as he trains and competes. Please join me…

What will winning a medallion of any class or colour at Rio 2016 do to our morale in South Sudan now?

Imagine singing our National Anthem there, as one of these three national champions get to stand on the Gold Winners’ Podium in Rio, with the flag of South Sudan caressing the breeze… We’d simply annex paradise with wordless songs of ecstasy.

Tears of joy, like a multiple tsunamis will flow wildly through the country, and probably every black person on earth would claim South Sudanese nationality for a day. Loud ululations would rent the calmness of many a night. Even if it’s just for a season, we’d sleep and wake with a proud smile; and hopefully, enduring peace. Please allow me to dream, it’s my inalienable human right.

Santino is the product of a dream that has come to be. But there’re others like him; Reida Keji, Grace Betty Bangu and Mabel Mercy and Emma Bamongoyo; who maintained steady victories over the years in the same students’ sport event that produced Santino but haven’t made it to the big stage.

There are other Santinos waiting to be revealed, sparring in hope for their time to be served fresh on the world stage. The nation of South Sudan is greatly blessed with huge potentials among the youth. Among other things, our ministry strives to discover and disciple them, to engage and accomplish their destinies.

Pray with us for an enduring peace that we yield meaningful infrastructural development. We need sport coaches. We need sponsors. We need long-term workers, who’d sit with these youth, monitor their progress and help steady their kingdom journeys. I’m their voice here, calling on you and responding to your fears and doubts with, “Come and see.” (John 1:39)

May Santino and this team in Rio 2016 excel! May their journey to Rio 2016 provoke many and open doors for others to be discovered and discipled. May their victory give the peoples of South Sudan reasons to believe and trust God for a better and brighter tomorrow; in Jesus name! Amen!

Look for us in Rio 2016; pray for peace and progress in South Sudan.

My vision for ministry in South Sudan

In August 1992, the Lord said to me, “Go to the secondary schools!” My life’s dream is the vision of regenerated youths, ablaze with a passion for Christ’s glory and fame in the world.

Teens and young adults impacted and equipped to take the Kingdom Message to the ends of the earth.

I dream of a Christian students’ movement mobilized for global missions. And I see this dream realized through our efforts in discipleship with the young people in Yei, South Sudan. I see them as arrows in the hands of the Master, waiting to be shot in various directions northward, into regions where His name and fame is still unknown. I see them manifesting the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit as in the days of the Bible. But first, they need to be prepared.

The ultimate goal of my ministry is to raise young people whose life will honor and glorify God. To accomplish this goal I need a team of passionate Christ followers to go with me. I am praying for laborers of the harvest, people who love to hang out with young people with the aim of connecting them to their purpose.

Mubarrak is a young man who represents the power of our ministry. Three years ago he came to Christ through our ministry and and a year later, he returned to his tribe in the Nuba Mountains, compelled to share the Gospel with them. Although it has been difficult, he felt God calling him to the Arabian Peninsula as a missionary where he has been for over a year.

I believe we are on the verge of a great outpouring of the Holy Spirit in South Sudan that will change the spiritual landscape of that nation forever.

With most secondary schools in Yei hosting their own Scripture Union fellowships, it’s only a matter of time before the explosion will occur. We are looking beyond Yei at present and asking the Lord for directions.

We need staff to help disciple and conduct vocational training for those seeking a trade, connecting them with God’s purpose.

We also need to create a platform to develop these young leaders in their God given passions.  Anything from skill and ministry expression, to intercession, evangelism and church planting to music, drama etc.

South Sudan is the newest country in the world. Yei is just three hours from Uganda and is safe for visitors. The young people there speak English and are eager for more experienced people to help them grow. It’s a place where the fields are white unto harvest. All we need are laborers and sponsors.

If the Lord is stirring your heart to align your dream with our vision and partner with us, please send me an email: ucheizuora@yahoo.com. We want to know you and how you hope to labor with us.

Dreaming with the dreamers

It’s a joy and a privilege to hang out often, with people whose passion for Jesus is infectious enough to force positive changes. I see in these people a hope that’s healthy and assuring. I see in them, the fulfillment of great dreams that have crystallized into kingdom visions. I see dreamers daring to live and die for something worthy of their Master, Jesus Christ.

Sight is more of what lies bare before us; Vision is what we see lying ahead with the eyes of the spirit but what about dreams? Dreams seem to thrive in the shadows of our hopes and depending on their scope, may only be harnessed by faith when they move from mere ideas to burning irresistible expectations that cannot be achieved without God’s involvement.

What stirs your passion or makes you cry? This question if answered sincerely, could lead you into the crevices of your dream world, that place where you are most alive.

Without sight, our imaginative skills may be sharpened as our sense of smell, touch; earring, and taste could be boosted significantly. But without the ability to dream and dream big, chances are that we’ll eventually lie on our deathbeds wondering what could have been, had we done this or that. Many are stuck at this dreadful spot now, mulling over a past that could have been different if they obeyed that inner voice.

Seth Barnes and a team of dreamers just launched another ministry- Kingdom Dreams. They insist that “We’re dreamers. Just like Edison and Einstein. Just like Madame Curie and MLK. Just like you. We’re frustrated and inspired. We dream of making the world a better place, and of transforming culture. All because of a beating in our hearts that says, “There’s more.” We’re compelled to act. To not only dream but to bring dreams to life...”

A vision is a preferred future, more like the ultimate goal of a dream. It demands change and sometimes, radical ones. It calls for movement, which could be in any direction from top to bottom or bottom-up, depending on Abba’s purpose as He plots every step with care and love. Either way, great dreams like visions, require someone to champion that desired cause. In every generation, God waits for that one man or woman, whose deliberate act of faith will make the invisible God not only visible but also tangible.

Most of us live our whole lives without having an adventure to call our own. What is life without the pursuit of a dream, when there’s One who can outdo our wildest imaginations? Ephesians 3:20

Mubarak returned to his people in the Nuba Mountains after receiving Jesus as Savior. He had a dream.

Now, Kuku in the clip [HERE] is nursing great dreams for Kingdom exploits amongst his vastly Muslim people also in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. His is a journey of tenacious determination and sacrifice fueled by a lively faith. There are many others like him, seeking direction and clarity for their call.

It’s because of disciples like these that our Kingdom dreams for Sudan will outlive us. Why not join us!
